Schafer’s ATA has changed my life tremendously. When I started almost 5 years ago it was because my family was already doing Taekwondo. Little did I know how much I would love it! Mr. Nicholas Schafer, instructor and owner of Schafer’s ATA Black Belt Academy teaches more than Martial Arts. My husband and I do not look at Taekwondo as another sport for our kids; we look at it as another school…a school of life skills that will serve our children not just for a few seasons but for the rest of their lives. No other sport has offered our kids the degree of
physical, social, emotional and psychological growth as Taekwondo. We feel truly blessed to have found Schafer’s ATA. Mr. Schafer is an exception teacher and inspirational human being. The command he has over his students is a delicate balance of firmness with high expectations along with gentle molding and deep devotion. He is heavily invested in his students not just at Taekwondo but in their lives outside of school, as well. It is common to hear about how he attended someone’s birthday party, graduation, or visited someone who was ill. He makes his self available to parents, too. After my children started at Schafer’s ATA I noticed how much fun the adults in the class were having. Everyone was friendly, encouraging, and inclusive. Not being an athlete, I wondered if it would be too difficult for me. Now I am a second degree black belt and can’t imagine life without taekwondo. And I’ve changed in some unexpected ways. Sure, I am more confident and physically stronger than before, but I am also friendlier and more encouraging to others. The lifeskills practiced in class, especially in the Leadership program, have influenced all areas of my life. Mr. Schafer has been an incredible mentor to my daughter, who is now an adult and has opened her own ATA club. As a local school teacher and parent, I have seen the profound changes Martial Arts has on children’s self esteem, focus, and physical abilities. Mr. Schafer and I have shared students and, because of this, I continue to refer families to Schafer’s ATA. He is especially wonderful working with individuals with special abilities and needs. I have seen these students become more confident and utterly excited to be apart of such a supportive environment. With budget cuts in schools today, physical education is slowly being eliminated to allow more time for other core subjects. We decided to enroll our son in Taekwondo as we felt he needed some discipline and was easily distracted. We were first impressed that Mr. Schafer interviewed us separately over the phone to see what we were looking to accomplish. After our discussions, we then all had a meeting together and he talked to our son. We decided to move forward after that meeting. Our son was three when he started and it has been fun watching him grow with the Taekwondo family. He is now eight and just recently earned the title of 2011 State Champion. He is also getting ready to test for his 1st degree Black Belt. We got everything we expected and more by enrolling our son in Taekwondo. Our son is dedicated, focused, has greatly improved discipline and most of all confidence. Mr. Schafer & the ATA Staff are patient and caring. They do amazing work with the students and make each one feel important. My son has been attending Schafer’s ATA now for 7 years, starting when he was 7. He has always been good at sports and excelled in baseball and soccer. However, when he found Tae Kwon Do, he put his heart and soul into the art, giving up both baseball and
soccer to dedicate as much time as he could to his martial arts training. Through the years he’s been under your tutelage, I’ve seen him grow in so many different dimensions. He is confident and assured,and keeps his cool about him in challenging situations. This year, he decided to take up sports in high school, playing football and field sports such as shot put and discus. In football he was awarded MVP for his freshman team and he is excelling in both the hot put and discus. When I watch him, he shows the same determination, form, and poise you’ve instilled in him through his Tae Kwon Do training. We appreciate all that you’ve done, and all the work that you put into your school. It certainly shows with our son as it does with so many of your other students. These are things a parent could not have enough of. Thank you!
